Services
New Mom/Baby Consults consist of breastfeeding management through the first forty days and includes latch-on instruction with demonstrations of various nursing positions in the comfort of your home. You learn how your body works to feed your baby, how to “read a breastfeed”, how much milk is “enough”, and how to trust the feeds. Time honored soothing and comforting holds, and gentle burp techniques are covered, as well as understanding your baby's post feeding cues, changing "states", and normal infant sleep patterns.
Breastfeeding Consults for mothers of babies between 2 weeks to 2 years of age are individualized for specific problems, such as low milk supply, irregular feeds, transitioning from bottles/nipple shields to breast feeding, slow feeders/slow gainers, management of the overabundant milk supply and/or a fast milk ejection reflex, infant colic, reflux, sore nipples, thrush, breast infection, mastitis and plugged duct management. In addition, consults for special needs, such as augmentation and breast reduction, are available.
Transitioning Back-to-Work Consults may occur at any point along your breastfeeding journey. They incorporate your individual work schedule with appropriate storage and collection guidelines prior to and after your return to work that support sustained breast milk production while keeping the baby comfortable on the breast. Caregiver instruction in “paced bottle feeding,” as well as breast or bottle refusal is included, along with volume management based on the baby's current weight to favor continued breastfeeding.
Infant Feeding Consults consist of feeding plans for infants between 6 months and 2 years of age. These include transitioning to solids at between six to twelve months or age, with special diets plans for self-feeders, vegetarian or allergic infants from 12 months to 2 years. In addition, consults for "late solid food starters" are available. A feeding consult consists of observing a meal with you and your child - to assess oral/motor skills, appropriate volume, tool use, and behavior modification techniques to avoid/defuse meal battles. Consults include handouts for the sequencing of whole foods to compliment the developing gastric tract and lower the risk of food sensitivities/allergies, plus tips to develop the infant’s palate to avoid creating a "sweet tooth.” Meal plans may be individualized to fit your family meal pattern.
Food War Consults are specific for infants and toddlers from 10 months to 2 years who are refusing to sit in their high chairs, be spoon fed, accept "favorite" foods, and/or may be throwing food during the meal. The consult consists of sharing a meal with you and your child - to assess oral/motor skills, model appropriate volume, and tool use, as well as specific behavior modification techniques to encourage acceptance when offering the "refused" foods. Establishing the parental "division of responsibility", recognizing your infant or toddler's changing developmental cues, and introducing patterns for meals to allow your toddler to accept the foods you wish them to enjoy are included.
Gentle Weaning Consults start with outlining a healthy meal plan that incorporates a transition to "milk" to ensure that your child's nutrient needs are fully covered, plus a structured weaning plan that is both physically compatible with your body and breast milk production, as well as emotionally compatible with your intant's needs. "Milk" may be defined according to the family preference to include cow's milk, goat's milk, or any of the vegetarian/nut milks available in the marketplace. Appropriate nutrient guidelines using foods are included.

Consultations
Consults normally average 90 minutes to 2 hours in the comfort of your home. However, due to the Covid-19 crisis, my practice has shifted to Iphone, Facetime, or Skype consults with email follow up and handout support. You may book 45/60/90 minutes, depending upon your questions and concerns about infant feeding. Newborn guidance, latch issues, milk production/supply, pumping, plugged ducts/mastitis management, paced bottle feeding, colic and or reflux consults, transitioning to solids and gentle weaning consults are available. Payment is pro-rated and due at the time of the consult, via PayPal. You may request a written "doctor's order" for the visit from your pediatrician to attach to the superbill that is suitable for insurance submission. Although I do not accept insurance at this time, I am listed as an "out of network" provider. Submitting a superbill along with a "Doctor's Order" for lactation/infant feeding may help you secure some measure of reimbursement from your individual insurance company.
